Template Creation Guide
What is a Template?
A template is a pre-configured package that bootstraps an AI receptionist for a specific industry. It includes voice configuration, a system prompt, services, FAQ entries, and automations — everything a business needs to go from zero to a working AI receptionist in minutes.
Getting Started
- Create an account and sign in to the Dashboard
- Navigate to Create Template
- Fill out the 7-step form: Basics, Voice, Services, FAQ, Automations, Pricing, Preview
- Submit for review
- Once approved, your template goes live on the marketplace
Template Structure
Each template contains:
- Voice Config: Voice selection (Retell AI), language, tone
- Greeting: The first thing the AI says when answering
- System Prompt: The AI's personality and behavior instructions
- Services: Bookable services with durations
- FAQ: Pre-loaded question/answer pairs
- Automations: Workflows triggered by events (e.g., SMS after booking)
- Escalation Rules: When to transfer to a human
Best Practices
- Write system prompts that are specific to the industry — generic prompts perform poorly
- Include at least 10 FAQ entries covering the most common caller questions
- Test your template by installing it on a test business before submitting
- Use a greeting that identifies the business type so callers know they reached the right place
- Set up escalation rules for emergencies and complex scenarios
Pricing Guidelines
You can offer templates for free, as a one-time purchase, or as a monthly subscription. Revenue share is 70% to the creator and 30% to FrontDeskOS.
- Free: Great for building reputation and installs
- $19-49 one-time: Standard for industry-specific templates
- $9-29/month: For templates with ongoing updates and premium support
Review Process
Submitted templates are reviewed by the FrontDeskOS team for quality, appropriateness, and pricing fairness. Reviews typically complete within 48 hours.
